Kermit's Tremé Mother-in-Law Lounge is a must-visit gem located in the heart of New Orleans' vibrant Tremé neighborhood. As the last Black-owned jazz lounge in the area, it embodies a unique blend of music, culture, and culinary delight. Support the last Black-owned jazz lounge in NOLA! Kermit is a riot! Red beans & rice with sausage were available the night we went and it was delicious. The show was indoors the night I went, there was seating for 20. We arrived at 6:20 and got the last 2 seats. The show started on time (was already on when I entered) and lasted about 90 minutes.

Go get your fill of some serious local music, get there early for the Tuesday 6 PM show it's the one that will least likely have a line if you get there 15 minutes early. 20 gets you in, cash or card. Its mostly stand only with perhaps a dozen chairs in the small tight quarters. Kermit is a very active participant in his bar, so do not be surprised if he's chatting it up with you at the bar or suddenly, you feel a trumpet in your ear and he's going into town, playing it with so much passion. The guys all have such a great banter with each other. It is amazing, amusing and delightful to watch. SO much talent on this stage. The drinks are very moderately priced, they do not give you cups of waters so be prepared to pay for bottled water. There's food on the menu and as Irvin Mayfield says Kermit declares himself a chef 1st and a musician 2nd, so if you're lucky enough ask for what they're serving on the menu it could be his proclaimed raccoon gumbo.

Support this local landmark! There is a cover for shows. It is worth it to keep the tradition alive. There is a nice patio with music out there on nice days. Kermis cooks a killer pot of beans and rice. Be sure to tip the person serving! Try Kermit’s spicy vodka!

If you go to NOLA this is a MUST! Kermits is out of the french quarter but the vibe is amazing! The music was exceptional. The beans and rice were delicious. If I lived in NOLA id be there every week. The jam session had a permanent smile on my face. Please go here !

Fun, intimate, authentic live music experience. Get there early if you want a seat, and if it’s a Monday night, come hungry—the night we went, they served up delicious black-eyed peas & rice full of sausage & ham hock plus birthday cake, for nothing but tips. Kermit is a gracious host & talented entertainer.

Kermit is the ultimate entertainer. He has so much talent and charisma as do his band mates and family. You're not going to the Mother in Law Lounge for the atmosphere or fancy cocktails. You're going for good straight forward drinks served by a friendly staff and to hear some master jazz musicians play. I didn't eat the food as I have dietary restrictions but based upon the crowd reaction, Kermit is one hell of a cook in addition to being a hell of a musician and host.
